Celebratory Dinner At Chez Fonfon in Birmingham.
Last week I got together with one of my dearest friends, Sevgi for a celebratory dinner at Chez Fonfon in Birmingham, AL. I am all about finding a reason to celebrate and it was definitely easy to find something to celebrate after the week I had. For months it felt like my entire life was an unknown. Maybe not necessarily an unknown—I knew what the outcome would be— but I truly had no idea how in the world I would get there. All I knew was that somehow, someway I would move to Fairhope and that the Lord would be faithful through it all.
Fast forward through all the super early mornings, extremely late nights, tears, prayers and the Lord breaking through. Everything started taking shape. Last Monday a client signed their contract—hallelujah! On Thursday I signed my lease for my dreaaaam apartment. Friday was my last day working with Click and Love. It was a whirlwind of beautiful beginnings and ends.
Needless to say, I had a lot of reasons to celebrate.
Sevgi was also had quite a few reasons to celebrate, but that’s her story to tell! We were celebrating all the beginnings, ends and in-betweens of life and what better way to do so than by getting dressed up and eating a steak dinner and incredible desert at one of Birmingham’s most-esteemed restaurants?
What To Order From Chez Fonfon.
Let me just say, Chez Fonfon did not disappoint and was definitely one of the best meals I have eaten since living in Birmingham. It lived up to all the hype and now I see why it’s a staple in Birmingham.
To get things started we ordered “Walter’s tomato salad with red onion, anchovy, chèvre & red wine vinegar”. This seasonal appetizer was refreshing and oh-so delicious. I’m not going to lie though, I learned that day I am not a fan of anchovies. Can’t knock it ‘til ya try it, right? I tried, I really did.
Sevgi and I both ordered the Bear Creek Bavette Steak with Pommes Frites and Salsa Verde. 10/10 and worth every penny. I have truly thought about this steak so many times since eating it. Oh the the fries—incredible. Who knew french fries could taste….sophisticated..? We ordered steaks, but “they”—as in everyone I’ve ever talked to about Chez Fonfon—rave about the “Hamburger Fonfon” and say it’s the best hamburger they’ve ever eaten, so I will have to give it a try one of these days.
We definitely saved room for coffee and desert and I highly recommend you do the same when you go. Sevgi ordered the Chocolate Caramel Nut Tart and I know she loved it. I ordered the Coconut Pecan Cake and wow, wow, wow. It’s a house favorite for a reason. It is now one of my favorite deserts and that’s saying a lot because I am a desert gal and have eaten some pretty phenomenal deserts over the years.
What To Wear, What To Wear.
Want to know a secret? I bought this floral wrap mini dress 40 minutes before we were supposed to be at the restaurant. I found it at none other than Madewell. The sizing kind of threw me for a whirl though. This dress is supposed to have more of a relaxed fit, but I know good and well I am not a 00 which is what I had to buy. The material of this black and white floral dress is what dreams are made of. It is so soft. The sleeve have a fun little poof and the front of the dress buttons up the side. This dress has the most beautiful details and is very comfortable which is a win. This dress is great because you can dress is up with a pair of heels or you can throw on a pair of white sneakers with it for a more casual look.
I have been looking everywhere for a pair of nude heels and I ended up finding this pair from Target for under $30. The heel is a great height, the shade of nude is perfect and I am in love with the squared toe.
As far as jewelry goes, I’m not a huge jewelry gal, but I do have a few dainty pieces I wear day-to-day. I purchased a rose necklace from Able years ago and sadly they don’t make the exact one anymore, but I did find these gold flower necklaces from Able and I think they are all so beautiful. A few days before our dinner at Fonfon, I was in Anthropologie and came across this dainty mixed-stone ring and have worn it every day since—which is a big deal because rings are probably my least favorite type of jewelry. I love the opal-like stones in this ring—they add a little extra somethin’ somethin’ to each outfit.
If you know me, then you know how much I love Madewell, so it will be no surprise when I tell you that my sunglasses, wallet and purse are also from Madewell. I have never been a consistent sunglass-wearer until I found these round aviator sunglasses this year (mine are the tortoise ones). It was hard for me to find a link to the exact woven crossbody purse I have, but this woven crossbody purse is very similar to the one I have and love. My black leather wallet from Madewell is a recent purchase that I’m so happy with. It is compact so it fits in smaller purses, but I am actually amazed at how much effortlessly fits inside it!
Now for the beauty essentials! I have used this Maybelline Matte Lipstick for years and I always get compliments on it! The “65 Seductress” is my go-to shade. When it comes to perfume, I am drawn to warm and earthy fragrances as opposed to fruity ones. I found this Maison Louis Marie No. 4 at Sephora and it may be my favorite perfume ever. As far as my nail polish, all summer I have been using this Muted Blue Essie Polish and I couldn’t love it more!
Well folks, that’s all I have for you today. I hope this encourages you to get dressed up with a friend and to go out and celebrate all the beginnings, ends and in-betweens of life over a steak dinner and killer desert. You won’t regret it.
